The Fuzz Light Years' lead singer Turner stands on stage, smoking, silent, immobile. The band play on around her.
She's a stick-like figure, with no discernable variation from the vertical between her head and her toes. Wallowing in malnourished junkie chic.
Then, as the first single, 'Interstellar Operator', kicks in, everything changes. She sparks into life, a scary, starry eyed automaton, all pouts and poses, and laconic in the extreme.
She throws Toyah shapes over the band's punk pop Blondie noises, and 'Interstellar Operator's kleptomaniac blast; stealing lyrics and influences from all and sundry.
Every single is exponentially better than the one before. 'Masquerade' is a supreme blast of disillusionment and the third, current single, 'Girl Song', is insanely catchy, a joyous song of rejection.
And then, after six perfect three minute pop songs and the junior wall of sound extravaganza that is 'Meat', they're gone. Next stop, top of the pops, or glorious obscurity.
