Breakbeat Era - 'Ultra-Obscene'
(Thursday July 15, 1999 5:47 PM
)
Released on 15/07/1999
Label: XL Recordings
Following glowing reviews of their series of limited edition releases on dotmusic's dance pages earlier in the year Breakbeat Era finally present the first full release from the forthcoming album. Probably the best choice, 'Ultra-Obscene' could be to this project what 'Share The Fall' was to Reprazent. This time around though, it's just Roni Size and DJ Die joined by the vocal talents of Lennie Laws with tight, electronic production very different to the organic sprawl of Reprazent. It's a nice balance and has already spawned classic club monsters like the ripping 'Our Disease Tera'. 'Ultra-Obscene' has already scored the Radio 1 playlist and succeeds in that most difficult of tasks - melding vocal flow to rolling beats. Long live drum 'n' bass. JP
