Released on 11/08/1999
Label:
French funk is cool, French funk is Daft Punk, Air, Cassius and now Kojak. Kojak's debut album has similar elements to its predecessors but injects a quality all its own as it veers from the garage-tinged soulful vocals of 'Hold Me' to Seventies' inspired funky 'You Can't Stop It' (the first single) to pumping four-on-the floor house tune 'Keep Me On Fire' taking in some hiphop/house crossover and soul-tinged tunes en route. Funky guitar riffs, slaved-over synth lines and some crucial beats show these guys are masters at work. Kojak are DJ Vas, Jayhem and Gregoire and they're renowned in France for their energetic live show so don't miss them when they come the UK in September. SD
