Joe Strummer - ''Yalla Yalla''
(Friday August 20, 1999 4:20 PM
)
Released on 20/08/1999
Label: Casbah Records
What did you expect - new punk? New white boy reggae perhaps? Think again. The highlight of Strummer's brilliant Glastonbury set (well, after 'Rock The Casbah' anyhow), 'Yalla Yalla' is a smouldering, post-dub, vibrato keyboard and vocal workout that's so sneaky you don't notice it taking up residency inside your brain until you're humming it on the bus - every day. People may look at you strangely when you break into the "Jambalaya on the Bayou" line at London Bridge station, but as a precursor for the 'X-Ray Style' album, this is a mouth watering appetiser. Hell, we don't even have to fear the inclusion of a track called 'Tony Adams'. Gigs start October 18th and we can't wait.
