Norwegian drum 'n' bass producer Polar is always worth looking out for if you like it razor-sharp, minimal and atmospheric. And that's exactly what you get on this 12", particularly effective on the flip, 'Implants', which sounds like Photek remixing an early 90s Warp release. 'Biosphere' takes clinical production and disparate drum patterns and throws it all together in a way that didn't ought to work. It's a bit of a surprise that it does. In both cases, Polar's productions are marked by painstaking attention to detail and a complete disregard for formula - an unusual style, closest in character to Photek but unique all the same.
