What did you expect? Aphex Twin mangling Glamma Kid's mind, while mud-wrestling with Syd Barrett? No. The new Oasis single arrives and delivers precisely what you want.
'Go Let It Out' is a storming record: An initial acoustic strum that sounds like 'Dry The Rain' by The Beta Band in as much as it is an acoustic strum, a burgeoning, distorted bass-line and a fabulous Liam 'Uuuuhhhh' one minute forty seconds in.
The lyrics are a typical mesh of meaningless Noel psychobabble, while a floating, mutating 'Strawberry Fields Forever' synth line leaves you to assume that his Beatles fascination is more like an illness.
But the track builds to a crushing resolution of rock momentum, as Liam's back-breaking sneer thrusts the band skywards, thus irrefutably crushing seven tones of anaemic, vacuous bile from the hollow heads of the Stereophonics, who've dared to perch their back-sides on the Gallagher's throne.
While it's unclear what we are supposed to 'let out' - a collective explosion of joy is perhaps on the agenda – 'Go Let It Out' is as vibrant and resoundingly triumphant a return as 'Do You Know What I Mean'.
But we all know what happened to the subsequent album. Just don't expect miracles and 'please don't put your life in the hands, of a rock and roll band.'
