There are basically two types of cover version in this world. Those that breathe new life into a given piece of music, affording it a contemporary relevance the like of which it has long since been denied. Conversely, there are those that, whilst no doubt providing endless entertainment for the band who feel the need to perform it, offer about as much musical invention as is displayed in the average edition of Stars In Their Eyes. Needless to say Younger Younger 28's latest singular offering falls very firmly into the latter category. This is a shame because, despite often acting like a group of trainees on a YTS scheme learning how to be Pulp, Younger Younger 28's self penned music has often been filled with well crafted melodies and acerbic observations on the less glamorous side of life. It is to be hoped that when this moment of self indulgence is finally over, they will return to the more serious business of fulfilling the potential that has long been ascribed to them.
