After a glut of nujazz remixes from the likes of Da Lata, Joe Claussell and Francois K, Femi Kuti's one-man-remix-industry takes a sudden change of direction. On reinterpretation duty here are Philly's finest, The Roots and Vienna's elctro-dub alchemists, Sofa Surfers. The Roots get the Afrobeat under control and bring things down to the usual jazz-lounge vibe, Black Thought laying down the rhymes. Sofa Surfers trip off for a 13 minute session which struggles to find the rhythms of Femi's vocal. Switching to an instrumental groove halfway through, things start to get a lot more interesting as everything is whipped up into a torrent of mesmerising dub.
