Embrace - 'Embrace – 'Save Me' (Virgin)'

Released on 29/05/2000
Label:
Originally believing their own hype and underachieving in the process the McNamara brothers were forced to eat a large slice of humble pie. Having reinvented their sound with this year's 'Drawn From Memory' album they have dropped the bravado of old and accepted the fact that they definitely won't be selling out stadiums or toping the charts in the near future. This, the third single from the album, sits stylistically between the first two. While 'Hooligan' sidestepped their audience with loose, laid-back loops, 'You're Not Alone' was a classic terrace sing-a-long in keeping with the style of their previous works. 'Save Me' cut'n'pastes the best bits from both to fine effect, blowing away the pompous overblown sound of old in favour of having a damn good time. It certainly won't change your life or reach the dizzy heights of the top three, but it is a stout straight in at Number 16 effort that will keep the brothers from returning to a life building sheds with their Dad for a while longer.
