Born out of the For Your Pleasure party nights, the new FYP label bursts onto the scene with a quality selection of house tacks that drip with funk and groove, bump and grind quality.
Currently only available on white label, the B-side kicks in with The Bob Bhamra Projects' 'Under The Sun', which uses a sneaky Parliament/ Funkadelic sample and swinging syncopated hi hats that along with, the occasional siren, are, Basement Jaxx-like, thrown over throbbing four four kick drum.
Freddie and Oliver deliver the storming 'Stop The Music', a focused minimal arrangement centred around a funky as you like it bass line, that's chopped up and looped over an un-fussy disco drum pattern.
Meanwhile on the A-side the opening track, Tobi One's 'Sly Magazine' contains all the current references to Latin house and arrives on the back of a conga charge, while a dark, smudged bass attacks from all corners.
Finally Andy S's 'I Know' is a sublime slab of early Nineties NYC dub-funk house. Utilising a solid b-line, it drops vocal snatches – echoing the school that brought us Masters At Work and, later, Van Helden.
All very tasty and leaves you hungering for more.
