Originally released last year, Rennie Pilgrem's awesomely disturbing 'Paranoia' funk-out returns to make the impact it should have made last time around.
Taken from the 'Music For All Persuasions' compilation from pioneering breakbeat label, 10 Kilo, 'Paranoia' is a galloping journey with the master of the dark breakbeat.
Against a background of the toughest 4/4 beats, he gives it all a heavy boot of lo-end theory, with a writhing evil bassline, occasionally giving it up to a menacing analogue melody. The triumphant breakdown is deep, reverberating, and demands to be played loudly on huge dancefloors!
This is almost a renaissance of old skool rave, but it's been given a totally futuristic identity and shot into outer space. Kicks like a mule, as they used to say.
