If you were tempted to "do it", as Mr Hall continually requests through this little burst of easy soul, it wouldn't be with 'Let's Do It Again' playing in the background.
See, it's a Marvin Gaye fan's pastiche of Marvin Gaye, and you don't get recognised as having one of the greatest voices God ever created if any old geezer can do just as well.
And, though Lynden's airy falsetto is perfectly sweet, next to Marvin he's just any old geezer.
Although the groove, and the strings in the background, transport you back a few decades, the track is laced with scratches and stuttering beats as if to remind us that this is a 'new' record. Not only does this harm the subtle ambience Mr Hall has worked so hard to create, it also throws the odd rhythmic spanner in the works.
Which is the last thing you need at a time like that…
