Hard to imagine Gwen Stefani hankering after the simple life. But if truth be told, all the rock chick with the candy-floss pink hair really wants is to settle down with Mr Right of Perfectsville, Dreamsfordshire, have some nippers, do some washing-up. A far cry from No Doubt's ska-rock beginnings, 'Simple Kind Of Life' is a thoughtful, highly infectious pop song with lines like "All I ever wanted was the simple things/A simple kind of life/And all I wanted was a simple man/ So I could be a wife." To a tune which sounds like a less boozed up and raucous Catatonia, mixed with Edie Brickell and the melancholy sigh of The Sundays she sings "I always thought I'd be a mom/sometimes I wish for a mistake" before concluding "you seem like you'd be a good dad". Aimed at Bush's Gavin Rossdale perchance?
