Ooooh, it's a bit weird. Is it folk, or ambient, or dance, or indie with beats? Every track on this EP is different, and only one ('Over Your Head') is dull. It's Jo and Danny made a splash on the festival circuit this summer, and are capitalising on their music press popularity with a collection of their intelligent, resolutely unglamorous (they've got a picture of their baby son on the CD cover for heaven's sake) songs.
'Love Expression' - the best song - starts off quiet and wistful, with a deliciously squelchy bassline. Then, from out of nowhere, a choir of voices and a lone trumpet appears and the song builds to a glorious climax, with it's chorus of "Love Is Special". It's like a gospel party in your CD player.
The closing track 'Moscow, I'm Russian' also utilises a slow-burning climax to good effect, blending a strummed acoustic guitar and analogue beats reminiscent of Pulp circa 'Babies'. In fact, the Cocker comparison rears it's head again on 'One Way Conversation' a piano piece backed by a woman excitedly telling someone what's she's planning to do at the weekend. One can't help thinking of Jarvis' spoken word opus 'Sheffield: Sex City'.
It's Jo and Danny could be the new Belle and Sebastian - self-consciously underground 'artistes' who surprise everyone by popping up with a Brit Award.
