Legendary London Jazz DJ Paul Murphy re-emerges with a stomping new single.
Murphy chooses Professor Longhair's classic 'Big Chief' theme tune as his base line, but drops a few miles south of the Prof's New Orleans dwelling and re-works the piano line via Brazilian beats.
Professor Longhair was of course the New Orleans pianist who inspired Al Toussaint and Art Neville, of the Meters, to mention but a few.
His take on rhythm and blues was essentially funky, so it's about time someone paid tribute to the man. Legend has it Paul McCartney thrrew a party in New Orleans during Longhair's latter years and invited him along to play. The Professor agreed but didn't have a clue who McCartney was. Respect.
The momentous flip side is a superb carnival track. The beats jump in running and then increase the pace. A total dance floor mash up, this will drop in nicely with the wealth of percussive grooves that are currently appearing.
