Red Hot Chili Peppers - ''Road Trippin''

Released on 02/01/2001
Label: Warner Brothers
Those meaty rockers return with one of their pensive, beautiful, acoustic ballads. The fifth track to be taken from their 8 million selling 'Californication' album, 'Road Trippin' is a gently passionate ditty laced with subtle strings. A Pleasantly low-key start to 2001 to soothe the New Year hangover. The big let down though is the inclusion of two live tracks, recorded in Toronto last year. No matter how much you may love 'Californication' and 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic' on record these versions are shambolic, shuffling tuneless monsters. Guess you had to be there. But after milking the album dry over the best part of two years, you would have thought the Chilis could have penned a couple of new tracks for the B-side. No point working yourselves into the ground I suppose.
