Roger Sanchez's R-snal imprint comes up with a cheeky mid-paced package.
On the A-side the "1980 Nice" Chris Rubix Remix has the echoing, hollow snare drums that dominated early Eighties clubbing, the disco sensibilities of Nineties French House, including filtered break downs, and a naughty little vocal hook that repeats "were trying to be nice", before occasionally clipping the beginning of the sample to leave "e-nice".
Silly and serious in the same breath. Nice.
On the flip 'Sky Juice' slightly increases the deep bpms, while still keeping it funky.
The Eighties references are still there through slap bass samples and gut string sounds that are as much harp as they are guitar.
By contrast 'Magnatize' arrives like an electro attack before taking on a tuff house cloak that deceptively covers carpet slipper grooves.
A quirky package and all the better for it.
