Nu Balance - 'Street Knowledge EP'
(Thursday January 25, 2001 12:06 PM )

Released on 25/01/2001
Label: T.O.V.

'You are now about to witness the strength of Street Knowledge' - the hip hop sample (made famous in d & b circles by Doc Scott) is employed on the title cut of this EP to full effect by TOV stalwart Nu Balance. Added to this is awesome sub-bass and old skool acid noises that make it lie somewhere between electrifying and terrifying.

'Subway' possesses similarly demonic proportions, though with a more percussive angle and funkier bass.

'Short Cut' is a richer sounding artefact, shot through with some techno influences before launching into much darker territory and 'A23', which rounds the EP off, is a track that starts with a more introspective sound but which soon morphs into a harder hitting affair. Points come for innovation and variety, as well as for floor wrecking capabilities.
