Photek may have put drum 'n' bass to one side at just the wrong moment but a producer of his calibre is entitled to do his thing and, on the evidence of last year's 'Solaris' LP, that maverick spirit has served him well.
'Mine To Give' is a collaboration with early Chicago house legend Robert Owens whose voice has graced more Trax and DJ International releases than you'd dare to shake a light stick at, working with production legends like Larry Heard and Frankie Knuckles.
Photek's production is as much homage to those house innovators as it is to the even earlier sound of Detroit - with a hefty dose of German boffins Basic Channel thrown in for good measure. But, it still manages to bring something new and equally timeless to the gig.
David Morales manages to rise to the occasion and turn in an amphetamine remix that is, at least, respectful of its company but it's the original that should have you rushing to your local record shop.
