As this record spins for the second time snow has started to drift from the streetlights. It's not a usual sight in North London and its' not what this record was designed to illustrate, destined as it is to be played against sunsets on baking hot summer days.
But right now it's snowing and the soundtrack still works, providing down beat wallpaper for all occasions, with nicely funky moments to boot.
This is the debut single from Spylab, the Glasgow based electronic duo of Kenny Inglis and Jon Gilles who first started working together almost ten years ago (although they only officially formed their spylab incarnation in 1998).
After such a long incubation you would expect the tracks here to be mellow and ripe with rich maturity. In that respect this doesn't disappoint, but it's perhaps too well matured to grab attention. On the other hand it all bodes well for the forthcoming debut album.
