'Bushes', which originally appeared a couple of years ago, first on Germany's Perlon imprint and then via Derick Carter's Classic label, makes a welcome return in the form of a Fatboy slim re-fry.
The creation of producer Markus Nikolai, vocalist Clair Dietrich and multi instrumentalist Theo Krieger, who plays guitar, bass and flute on the track, it's one of those light weight melodies that before you know it has taken-up squatter's rights in your head.
Structured around a cheeky melody and breathy suggestive lyrics ("If the bushes in the park groan after dark then someone's probably making uuuh"), its basic message is everyone's really only after one thing.
Derrick Carter's superb re-mix, which is thankfully re-released in this package, has already turned 'Bushes' into a cult club hit. It now threatens to get the wider attention it deserves as Norman Cook snaps it up for his Southern Fried label and gives it a re-working that should see it lurching into the main stream.
Norman's radio edit is a predictably crammed affair, but the 'Cook Club mix' gives the Fatboy plenty of time to play around with both the lyrics and musical content and turn in one of his best re-mixes to date.
The track's straight four four beats are pulled back to give the vocals space, the bass line swelled to capacity, and everything given the usual build and break Slim formula. It works well, allowing the lyrics space to deliver humour as well as dance floor impact.
By the end of summer we'll all have one thing on our mind. It goes: "If you say you love the soup when you actually want to puke, then isn't that sign of ahhhh". And it's come to stay.
