Considering how long she's been on the scene, the voluminous beauty of much of her music and the mental car crash she inspires in most men, Dot Allison doesn't actually seem to have achieved much in her decade long career.
'Substance' is the first fruit from the actually rather good new album 'We Are Science', Allison's first new material since the equally fine long-player 'Afterglow' a couple of years back.
This is basically a retro electro jaunt through some dated New Order dead-ends from around about ten years ago, which would probably be a good thing if it was, like, 1990. Which, in actual fact, it isn't.
However, you really can't argue with the luscious Allison cooing about being "in need of some substance" in the midst of the rather uneventful synth gloop. And the Felix Da Housecat remix is an absolute floor-destroyer, as some might say.
