Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale's AudioBullys have been making their presence felt in the playground of late.
Following the hard edged path forged by acts such as Basement Jaxx and Stanton Warriors, they take the tired four four house formula by the neck, shake it up a little and then jab a large dose of contemporary urban, funk beats up its backside.
Whereas the Jaxx in their time looked to US R&B for inspiration, the Bullys have taken the chops and bass of the UK breaks scene and splattered them into a more angular kick drum high hat format.
The main track here, 'Real Life', is lively and accessible but also the least engaging in a package that incrementally increases in interest the deeper you get.
The more compelling 'Hit The Ceiling' rolls easily on a crunchy bass kick and thunders into a short-lived crescendo, while 'Intro' takes a bass and bleeps motif and begins to show the potential for the Bully's beat brutality.
Finally 'The Tyson Shuffle' is a compelling power chord of skipping drum loops that's guaranteed to get the classroom jumping. Strangely the track hasn't been included on the vinyl version of this release.
Expect bigger bullying to follow.
