Zed Bias has been on great form of late, with his Maddslinky and (hopefully) forthcoming Phuturistix albums.
His secret? He simply buries himself in the studio and gets on with inventing exciting new garage strains.
But the origins of this cover of the dancehall classic 'Ring The Alarm' don't fit Zed's usual pattern.
Walking down a New York sidewalk, Zed's MC partner-on-rhyme Juiceman randomly started humming 'Ring's
lyrics. Zed responded by humming the bassline.
Returning to the UK, the two called reggae singer and Zed-affiliate Simba. The three produced this breakbeat garage cover, and most spectacular it is too. It scanks along at half tempo, before dropping into furious breakbeats and Juiceman's caustic rhymes.
Mr Bias has kept this as his intro dubplate for over a year or so. Thank Zed it's finally coming out.
