'Fine Day', a Nineties' hit for dance band Opus III, is back - courtesy of the band's vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw.
Thanks to Mike Koglin who has revamped and remixed it and given it the full-on trance treatment for 2002, Kirsty Hawkshaw's elfin vocal rings out in crystalline fashion over an arpeggiated bubbling trancey synth riff while drums pound satisfactorily. The 12" mix has a grungy dark synth sound that gives the tune some real depth and dynamics, making it a top floor filler.
For a more chilled version, James Holden concocts an ambient, atmospheric mix.
Hawkshaw has spent the time since Opus III disbanded (after their second album), working with dance luminaries such as Orbital (she is the vocalist on their biggest tunes 'Halcyon' and 'Lush'), DJ Tiesto, BT and Ian Pooley, to name but a few)
She has used her experience to good effect on this updated tune: 'Fine Day' holds its own at a time when, sadly, many trance tunes are pale imitations of former glories.
