Apparently Robbie Williams can’t get arrested in America, where there’s still some confusion over the strange singing career side-line of US actor Robin Williams. As far as the rest of the planet are concerned, we’re talking about one of the biggest stars in the world, a fact proved by the enormous success of new album “Intensive Care”, which was recorded in Los Angeles, ironically enough. In November, Robbie entered the “Guinness Book Of Records”, after selling 1.6 million tickets for next year’s world tour on one day. The numbers speak for themselves. Robbie Williams is Yahoo! Music’s Artist Of The Year for 2005… |

Madonna stands at the top of our video shortlist but all five are here for a reason. “Hung Up” marks the stunning return of the Queen of Pop in a “Saturday Night Fever” style grooveathon. Sean Paul’s “We Be Burnin’” confirmed dancehall’s emergence as a global pop force, while James Blunt is here purely because he was prepared to strip naked in really chilly weather. “Dare” makes the cut because every Gorillaz video is an eye-popping trip, particularly if it features a monstrous Shaun Ryder with a bolt in his face. Finally, Coldplay’s potentially award-winning Anton Corbijn promo for “Talk” sees the band on Mars, bringing a robot back to life with the sheer force of their rock.

Top LAUNCH Exclusive Performances |
A chequered guest list of pop, rock and hip hop stars rolled into Yahoo! Music's LA studios in 2005, to give us live takes on their hits and dispense wisdom on camera. Alongside global big-hitters like 50 Cent, Green Day, Destiny's Child and Gwen Stefani, stand untouchable Welsh hip hop 'collective' GLC. The band's turn at the Millennium Stadium is the only performance in our Top 5 to have actually commanded front-page news headlines, after the group dedicated "Your Missus Is A Nutter" to David Beckham, who's wife Victoria was in the crowd to watch him play for England against Wales. It would seem that the GLC's fifteen minutes of fame is still far from up…

Bob Geldof's bid to send a message to the world by assembling an almost entirely white cast of stars/cronies for Live 8 showed a terrifying lack of vision. While some wondered when Kim Wilde and Spandau Ballet would appear - thank God Annie Lennox and Sting could make it - others questioned where Damon Albarn was. One of few white musicians in the UK with a window on cultures beyond the bottom of their garden, Damon spoke with far greater volume and eloquence on "Demon Days", an imperious collection of sounds and players from the world over, delivered in pioneering, futuristic style. For his next miracle, we want Graham back in Blur!

Top News Stories: Shocking Scandals |
From the sublime - Pete Doherty and Kate Moss - to the ridiculous - Pete Doherty and Kate Moss - music made many headlines in 2005. Kanye West's exhilarating Hurricane Katrina rant against George W Bush live on US TV, as Mike Myers' face melted in alarm, has to be seen to be believed. However, the Michael Jackson story is the definitive news event in recent popular culture history. So strong were certain aspects of the evidence against the pop superstar but so flawed the accusers, that the trial was always too close to call. History will remember that Michael Jackson was found innocent. If only that were the end of this almost unbelievable story…
